Common questions
How do I work out a rent increase percentage?
Subtract current rent from proposed rent, divide the difference by current rent, then multiply by 100. The calculator also converts the difference to the selected payment period and an annual figure.
Is my landlord allowed to increase the rent?
The rules depend on your tenancy type and where you rent — fixed terms, notice periods and formal processes differ by country and region. This calculator shows what the increase costs; for what's permitted in your situation, check your tenancy agreement and your local official guidance.
Should I accept the increase or move?
The calculator does not recommend whether to stay, move, accept or negotiate. It supplies the percentage and annual difference for your own comparison; your costs, tenancy terms, alternatives and local rules are outside its calculation.
Can I negotiate a proposed increase?
Whether and how you can respond depends on your tenancy, the applicable rules and the parties involved. The calculator can provide figures to refer to, but it cannot predict an outcome. Check your agreement and current official guidance.
